1. Old Klang Road (OKR) is 111 years old.
2. It is the oldest and first significant road in the Klang Valley. Constructed by the British Federated Malay States government in 1905, OKR was completed in 1908.
3. OKR was built even before the Federal Highway existed.
4. Back then, it linked Kuala Lumpur to Klang and its port.
5. The road was christened after its destination and the prefix ‘Old’ was added after newer connections stemmed off along the road.
6. Today, OKR is 11km long and begins from Seputeh, just off the Mid Valley Megamall.
7. It covers suburbs such as Seputeh, Kuchai Lama, OUG and the Greater Petaling Jaya.
8. Kuchai Lama and Taman OUG are the two suburbs located right next to OKR. The population distribution in these two townships is mainly Chinese, followed by Malay and Indian.
9. The other suburbs surrounding OKR are Seputeh and Taman Desa.
10. Taman Desa is an old township built in the 1970s but is still in high demand today due to its ease of connectivity and proximity to the city centre.
11. Seputeh which is bordering KL Sentral has more high-end developments and leans more towards the higher income group.
12. Kuchai Lama and Taman OUG are located further away from KL Sentral. They are considered to be the older suburbs with lesser high-end commercial buildings as compared to other areas in OKR.
13. Traffic congestion is a norm in Old Klang Road. Bumper to bumper situation is a common sight, especially during peak hours.
14. A major road widening project costing RM359 million was carried out in 2010. Despite the road widening, due to the increasing number of cars and occupants, traffic woes have not been solved.
15. The much-awaited solution for the traffic jams in OKR is the 52.2km Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya MRT Line which is expected to be completed in 2022. The project will see a station being installed in Kuchai Lama.
16. The River of Life (ROL) project, an initiative by the Federal government aims to clean the Klang and Gombak river corridor to get rid of its current ugly sight of garbage.
17. The RM4.4 billion project will be implemented in three stages: river cleaning, river master planning and beautification and river development.
18. ROL will have a direct positive impact on Old Klang Road’s properties.
19. Developers are expected to start acquiring land beside the river for property development.
