Fishee Coffee

The smell of freshly baked bread could be felt in the air as we entered. Garlands of dried flowers hung from above, with ample cushions on the wooden benches, providing a cosy and rustic feel.

A lone bicycle stands in the corner, painting a minimalist and humble setting that many could relate to.

According to Fishee Coffee manager Wylie Tang Wai Li, the idea of conceiving Fishee came after his travel to Copenhagen, Denmark.

Inspired by the culture and people there, Wylie Tang decided to open a cafe with a homely Scandinavian theme.

He claimed that Fishee Coffee is the pioneer cafe in Arked Esplanad, and it is currently three years old. “We took around four months to do the decor, and it cost about RM180,000 to furnish everything,” said Wylie, adding that the seasoned wood he used was more expensive compared to the normal ones.

Wylie pointed towards the sturdy green wood that formed the floor of the cafe, saying that the material used was jetty wood that had been taken directly from Kuala Selangor.

From the kitchen, Fishee Coffee baker Yvonne Tang Choi Wah, Wylie Tang’s sibling, takes charge. Her passion for baking continues to burn bright after nearly a decade of experience in the profession.

Yvonne Tang stressed that all their recipes were homemade, including the bread, hence the difference in taste compared to other places.

Yvonne Tang said that the process of making a baguette alone would take around six hours, and she is currently being aided by her staff members.

She added that it isn’t easy to find a cafe that prepares everything from scratch and customers may experience it at Fishee Coffee.

Eggee Ham Toast
Fishee has a talent for cooking a balanced egg; not too hard or too soft, and this is no exception. Bathed with barbeque sauce, a mean egg sits atop this special toast.

Slice it in the centre and watch as the yolk flows down, only to have its rich essence being captured by the bread. This is one breakfast that everyone would look forward to in the morning.

Grilled Chicken Salted Egg Yolk Sandwich
Fishee’s culinary creativity amalgamates Asian and Western taste into a radical new union. Unlike our Western counterparts that utilise mayonnaise as a sauce, liquified Chinese salted egg yolk is incorporated instead.

Every bite taken is permeated by the strong aroma of salted egg and this is further enhanced by a generous helping of chicken meat.

Carbonara Pasta Bowl
Who would have thought that pasta could be placed in a bowl made from bread. Fishee executes it with charm and grace, and this isn’t just an art exhibit.

This new dimension creates a condition where the flavour of the bread has been added together with the mushroom chicken pasta, giving it a new taste. When it comes to the Carbonara Pasta Bowl, everything is edible, even the bowl!

Grand Slam Hot Dog
Not for the faint-hearted, this dish sports a huge sausage with a perfectly cooked bull’s eye omelette.

The yolk serves as an appetising sauce to wash down that large sausage. A very filling meal indeed.

Fishee Chickee Bun
Fishee’s upcoming menu is deeply fried and sinful. At an affordable price of less than RM10, the meat is tender, putting most fast food burger patties to shame.

The Fishee Chickee Bun, however, could do well with a healthy topping of salad and sauce to accompany the patty.

Matche Gelato Toast
A must try for any who visits Fishee, the green tea ice cream, unlike others have a unique balance between sweet and bitter that many could agree with.

Sprinkled with nuts and icing sugar, the charcoal bread makes a statement with its earthy taste.

Classic Gold Waffle
Golden, that’s one way to describe it. Sprinkled with a fair portion of icing sugar and honey with lightly salted butter as a topping, the waffle is a strong contender against other desserts.

Baked to a fine crisp, the waffle has an endearingly eggy taste to it.

Iced Matcha Latte

The Matcha does not overpower the taste of the drink as a whole, and the texture struck the right balance; not too thick and not too watery. It is the perfect closure to a meal as well as a thirst quencher.

Fishee Ball
The adorable design of this cake is the official logo of Fishee Coffee.

With a crushed Oreo base, the cheesecake is coated with rich dark chocolate; best paired with a steaming cup of coffee.
