Name: Gallen Low Chen Yik, 34
Occupation: Consumer sales specialist
Years of living in OKR: 27 years
gallen Low Chen Yik came to Old Klang Road at the age of seven and has been living here for 27 years. He could vividly remember his childhood when he went out to buy cigarettes and newspapers for his father. Back then, most of the houses along the road were made from wooden boards and aluminium roofs.
According to Low, traffic jam has always been a part of Old Klang Road, despite the lack of car usage back then. He attributed it to the condition of the road and the frequent flooding which occurred at the Batu 3 and Batu 4 area.
“Now, the main road is much better but traffic jam still happens because of the increased frequency of vehicular usage,” he said.
Low further described Old Klang Road as a busy place, ever bustling with activities and culture. Previously the area maintained a strong Chinese community, and this was reflected through the presence of the Choong Wen Chinese School and the morning market at Batu 4.
“For me, some of the highlights here are the Chinese food that are both affordable and delicious,” he said, adding that his numerous friends, relatives and family are among the main reasons why he stayed here.
Other appealing factors include Old Klang Road’s centralised location, which allows him convenience and access to other places in Kuala Lumpur.
Finally, he suggested the creation of a 2mil sq ft shopping mall in the area. “I want my properties to appreciate in value,” he said cheekily.
